Black springtails and others:

I am awaiting id`s on a couple types of springtails and isopods which are found locally. I have been culturing these critters in my tanks for some time. There are at least 4 types of isopods I`m working with and 3 or more types of large springtails. I will collect insects and place them into clean starter cultures to ship them out. I`m getting them to 2 people locally. They should be able to culture them and produce feeder cultures to sell here or thru other venues in the coming months.

There are 3 or more types of common isopods I will have available. 1 pink/red type that is smaller than the dwarf woodlice and cultures readily should be a great feeder. I believe most of the success i`m having with culturing these bugs is in the viv mix i use. it has a a lot of different components which grows moss like wildfire and provides many different types and stages of decomposition of woody materials and enough moisture retaining qualities to provide diverse microniche`s(just a theory). It`s well drained so as to be moist but not soggy in a typical vivarium environment. I`ll add pics of the isopds soon. sorry, there is no scale to judge size.
